Then, when I arrived at Tahoe City, my 13 year old son joined me for the final 50 miles of the trail. Not being able to eat and drink much did not help my body and my legs to keep the pace and to recover, even though I still dont know if this is the main issue, or if I am just too weak overall. 272.89 m Up It was a good workout, to be sure. Best of luck & I hope to see you finish in TC in a few days!!
I carried about 10k calories from the start along with a water filter and the rest of my running gear and took no supplies along the way. An unsupported lap would be extraordinary challenging, but I'm sure that one of us will be up for the task! That last site was epic, but it was also an epically long hiking day that led to it — I passed up a bunch of possible sites right after Barker Pass Trailhead and at the North Fork of Blackwood Creek because I would have had neighbors. Not pleasant. Marlette Lake and Tahoe Rim (Spooner) Trail Loop is a 22.0 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Glenbrook, Nevada that features a lake and is rated as difficult. I was talking with Jenelle a lot over the last few days, as we were trying to figure out when the mileage additions were made to the TRT. Hi Kai – I’m glad it’s been useful for you. And of course they were going counter clockwise. aurelien sanchez
My Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) thru-hike required two separate gear lists. Scroll down to read my daily blogs from the TRT, check out my gear lists, and read some of the lessons I learned along the way! Tue, 07/10/2018 - 06:05pm.
Steep. Note that like many trails the TRT has gotten longer (and better!) Most water caches are at trailheads where the trail crosses a major road. akimble818 My carefully calculated mileage plan didn’t even last through the first day, so I just tried to hit my mileage goal for each day—15.6 miles/day for the first five days and 18.6 miles/day for the last five days. My total time was 45 hours, 36 minutes and 36 seconds. Pretty easy going from Spooner Summit to Spooner Lake, moderate climb from Spooner Lake to Marlette Lake. I will start at the Truckee River bridge in Tahoe City, CA and I will be traveling counter-clockwise around the lake. helenpelster The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) is a 171-mile long loop trail around Lake Tahoe. Finally, there is a partial loop around Spooner Lake to cap off the day. I look forward to taking on this FKT again in the future! I didn't realize what a "big deal" it was until around a week later when four runners (Adam Hewey, Victor Ballesteros, Gary Gellin, and Ben Lewis) set out to run what they were calling the #TRT165 (even though it was over 169)- there were podcasts, news stories, LIVE TRACKING, etc, and as it turned out, 3 of 4 dropped and the one person that finished was Victor, in 53:03. My plan was to squeeze a solo hike into 11 days in August between PCTA trail crew work and Labor Day weekend with friends at a USFS lookout tower. The TRT section had lots of trail runners however.
The Tahoe Rim Trail was a perfect solution: it’s close to the Bay Area where I live and do-able in under two weeks—but still provides the satisfaction of a thru-hike. Sat, 07/04/2020 - 10:18am, I'm starting an unsupported run of the TRT on July 4, 2020. I plan to make a solo unsupported TRT attempt in the next week (watching weather window.) Will absolutely ride again. Not as lovely as the TRT, and shared with a LOT of cyclists.
Riders will make a significant climb up trail composed of softer decomposed granite overlooking the Carson Valley to the Kingsbury North trailhead. Something else? This is because the first 120... Saw a herd of deer feeding in the meadows! 9.4mi, Got lost a couple times because I’m not from the area and I’m a rookie. If you are doing this counter-clockwise, to make sure you don’t miss the trail back to Spooner, find the two 4x4 posts that mark the Tahoe Rim Trail on the saddle about 200 vertical feet below the Snow Valley Peak summit and follow it south without worrying that you are not on the trail as marked by the app. Anyway, congrats Tom! Pretty easy going from Spooner Summit to Spooner Lake, moderate climb from Spooner Lake to Marlette Lake.
My second ride ever on a MTB. Saw a herd of deer feeding in the meadows! — I began my hike at Echo Summit (on the south side of Lake Tahoe) and hiked the first 120 miles of the TRT solo. Many people prefer to ride this loop counter-clockwise (as mapped) to avoid having to climb up the Daggett Loop Trail (Tahoe Rim Trail: Kingsbury Loop Trail) in the soft decomposed granite that can be quite loose in sections. 272.74 m Down. . Congrats on your incredible run, Adam! This is a fun high elevation ride on the Tahoe Rim Trail Loop at the top of Kingsbury Grade (Stateline, NV). •
The TRT is the more strenuous part of the hike, but beautiful among the trees, and once you hit the tundra, the views of the Lake are spectacular. On July 3rd I set out unsupported for an FKT attempt on the TRT. Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out. I carried a spot tracker that failed about halfway through, but the one aspect that was consistent was Luis Escobar was there to document the effort. I have changed few things from the the last failure: no chili con carne the day before, 2 liters of water instead of 1, better clothes against the heat, less fatty food to eat on the trail. The Tahoe Rim Trail is a long-distance backpacking and hiking trail that forms a 170 mile loop around Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada and Carson mountain ranges of California and Nevada. Very inspiring to follow along, and I look forward to seeing you go after it again. • The Tahoe Rim Trail is exquisitely maintained, extremely well-signed, and deservedly popular—it’s a truly beautiful hike with spectacular views, accessible to all types of hiking and riding. The updated maps from the TRT (and Guthook app) show that it's currently 171.2, but my final mileage from last weekend was just over 172. Having moved to the area recently i have checked out a few other trails (Tallac and Armstrong have been the favorites so far) however, i pass the Spooner Trailhead nearly daily on my way to work, and kept getting more interested each time. Very ambitious loop for those who prefer something other than the Marlette Lake out & back. The trail is well developed as the forest section is all TRT and the flat section is all double track, so no concerns with getting lost.
Worth the 17 miles! akimble818 I failed again at my second attempt on the Tahoe Rim Trail. An interesting feature of the trail is that, since it is a loop, one can choose basically any starting/finishing point, and can run in either direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise). Fri, 10/18/2019 - 11:20am, In reply to Hey Friends! Then decided on a whim to go up higher, with the intention of getting Marlette Peak checked off my list, but once I saw the TRT heading back down I checked the time and decided to follow the TRT back to Spooner Summit.
