I guess on this kind of thing the "heavy" barrel is still pretty light? with a new throat and crown those barrels will give stellar varmint accuracy for a couple thousand more rounds depending on caliber. The thing is a heavy barrel takes longer to heat up, but also longer to cool down. A thicker barrel also tends to help the shooter and minimize their effects on accuracy (how they hold the gun, tight vs loose grip, how good is their bench technique, how firm is the cheek weld.) And when the barrel heats up if it is a sporter or lightweight barrel, things go quickly south in the accuracy department. Also, the stocks barrel channel inlet can vary as well. I'm tossing up which way to go, but like I said to start... The Factory Barrels may vary as much as .015″ on dimensions. Also have one in 17HMR sporter and SS Varmint the Varmint shoots a bit better than the sporter but both are still shooting very accurately and can shoot a perfect score over 75m. Also somewhere down the road you may want a tuner and they are generally used on heavy barrels.

I will be using this for bench rest at my club at 50 yards, some say it don't matter, but if I'm going to put this kind of money on the gun, I want what is best.
