Very awesome! It is super helpful to have a base with a Research Center up and running around the clock, the bigger the better, but if you want an easy method then get a ticket to Novus. They are listed under Exosuit at the very bottom. The Trade Platform gives 2 Organic for every Scrap, up to 8 total for 4 Scrap. Why do you have to make a platform? A strong recommendation would be to set up a Research base on Novus as all nodes there are worth at least 1,000 Bytes per node., or you could alternatively try and find Astronium, a rare resource that is good for 40 Bytes per minute with a fully powered Center.
Placing the Scanner on the Probe will unlock a cosmetic and more importantly an achievement for all your troubles!

I agree, like the Data Locker that you find in the red cave, I think both of these items are for the sole purpose of progressing in the tutorial and nothing more.
